In view of transforming Mauritius into an Intelligent Island, the TEC created an on-line Library. The Library was officially launched on 4 February 2010 by the Minister of Education, Culture & Human Resources, Hon. Dr V K Bunwaree.
The aims of the on-line library are optimising the use of resources in the sector, promoting research and boosting teaching and learning activities. In the first instance, the on-line library has been launched to address the needs of researchers, students and academic staff of the publicly funded tertiary educational institutions.

.
The on-line library provides access to two databases (EBSCO & Emerald) which constitute a major source of information and knowledge acquisition for students and academic staff alike. The subscription with EBSCO provides access to more than 11,600 magazines in full-text and unlimited access to its e-journals. On the other hand the subscription with Emerald enables access to over 7000 full text articles. These include backfiles as well.
The Commission is presently considering the to add e-books and more databases of e-journals to the present subscriptions and also to extend the on-line library service to municipal and district council libraries ,as well as, post offices offering free internet facilities.
